Best Ways To A Better Head Of Hair – Say No To Hair Loss

Not many people, men or women, would refuse to have a nice head of hair given the choice.

We try to look our best, feel good about ourselves and like to convey a youthful appearance to others. Life today has its own demands and more and more people look to cosmetic surgery for answers to the aging process.

Hair loss can have deep psychological effects for both men and woman, consciously or subconsciously this can affect confidence, the ability to interact with others easily, and can lead to low self-esteem.

With the many options available it can be hard to know where to start and which is the best option for you. A hair loss consultation is often the first and best way to break through the jargon and different treatments available and fin the one that meets your goals and expectations.

What Are Your Options To A Better Head Of Hair?

  • FDA Approved Treatments
  • Medical Therapies
  • FUT Surgical Hair Restoration
  • FUE Surgical Hair Restoration
  • BH Surgical Hair Restoration
  • Scalp Micro Pigmentation

FDA Approved Treatments

There are only three FDA approved medicated treatments and therapies for the treatment of hair loss, although FDA approved it must be understood there is no miracle cure and results can vary from person to person, and always consult a specialist before using.

Minoxidil Topical Solution

In the late 1970s, the American drug company Upjohn created a drug called minoxidil. This medication was first administered internally to patients who were suffering from severe high blood pressure. As a side effect of the drug, it was discovered that patients grew hair on various parts of the body. We know it stimulates the hair follicles‟ active growth (the anagen phase), causing the hairs to thicken and grow longer. Minoxidil is helpful in slowing down the rate of hair loss in approximately 70%-75% of patients, and about one in two patients actually experiences hair re-growth.

Finasteride Oral Treatment

Propecia® (finasteride 1mg) stopped hair loss in over 80% of cases and stimulated hair regrowth in around half of the cases. Propecia® works by inhibiting type 2 5-alpha-reductase (the enzyme that produces DHT from testosterone). Propecia® has few side effects and those that occur are resolved when the medication is stopped. One side effect, which occurs in 2% of men, is a change in sexual desire or function. Propecia® does not affect sperm function or fertility and the medication presents no risk to women during normal sexual relations. However pregnant women and women of childbearing age should not take or handle the medication.

Low-Level Laser Therapy

One of the latest innovations in medical technology is Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT). Low-Level Lasers are referred to as “cold” lasers because they do not release energy in the form of heat. The light wavelength emitted from a low-level laser actually repairs tissues that have impaired cellular metabolism by stimulating blood circulation and encouraging regeneration of normal, healthy tissues.

Laser light appears to stimulate microcirculation, decrease inflammation and improve cellular metabolism and protein synthesis. Furthermore, European studies suggest that LLLT increases blood and lymph circulation at the hair roots and stimulates follicular cells, which may cause hair to grow thicker and stronger.

Medical Therapies

Mesotherapy is a non-invasive and non-surgical hair loss and hair quality treatment. Using a selective combination of elements which can consist of natural plant extracts, homeopathic agents, vasodilators, finasteride and minoxidil, and vitamins. The active ingredients can be customised dependent on the individual´s needs and hair loss cause.

PRP therapy, a blood sample is taken and placed in a centrifuge, this spins at a predetermined speed to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the other factors in the blood. PRP is concentrated blood plasma that contains approximately three times the number of platelets found in normal circulating blood in our body. PRP can be used for the purpose to stimulate inactive or dormant hair follicles in a variety of hair loss conditions and to stimulate grafted follicles into the growth phase.

FUT Hair Transplant Technique

FUT hair transplant surgery the doctor harvests the hair from a thin strip of the hair-bearing tissue removed from around the back and sides of the head. The length and width of the strip will ascertain the number of follicular units, (FU) that are contained within the strip; this can range from a few hundred to thousands of “FU”. Once removed the hair follicles are divided into their natural groups of one to four hairs, the recipient sites are made and the hairs then placed in the new area.

FUE Hair Transplant Technique

Follicular Unit Extraction/FUE, on the other hand, utilises a different harvesting method, using a micro-punch to extract each FU one by one from around the donor area; the number of punch extractions is related to the number of grafts required. The hairs are first punched and then extracted to be cleaned under magnification before being placed into the new area.

BH Surgical Hair Restoration

Meaning Body Hair restoration when the hair is extracted from alternative areas other than the scalp, such as the beard, chest, back, arms and legs. This option can be used on the right candidate to enhance previous hair restoration when the traditional donor hair has been expired.

Scalp Micro Pigmentation – SMP

The Scalp Micro Pigmentation – SMP treatment mimics the look of a shaved head of hair, with your natural hair shaved the pigmentation blends without any noticeable difference. An advantage of this treatment is we can give you back your old hairline if you wish and create the look of full coverage and strong hair density from your hairline to your crown. Although you see results after one session SMP takes a few sessions over several weeks to build up the pigment until we reach the desired result for you. You care for your result as you do now, wash your hair and just keep your own hair short to blend with the pigmentation. For the majority, results last for over three years and even then, all that is required is a minor touch-up to once again give the look of an even strong density.
